Operatives attached to the Plateau State Police Command killed one suspected armed robber during a shootout with armed robbers on Thursday night in the Bokkos Local Government Area of the state.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed in a statement posted on X.com on Sunday and signed by the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alfred Alabo.

According to the statement, the patrol operatives were on their way to Bokkos LG when they ran into a roadblock set up by the suspected armed robbers.

The statement read, “On August 29, 2024 at about 8pm, our patrol team attached to the Department of Operations (DOPS), State Headquarters Jos, while on their way to Bokkos LGA, encountered a roadblock mounted by suspected armed robbers.

“Upon sighting the patrol vehicle, the hoodlums opened fire on the officers. Consequently, a gun battle ensued between the officers and the criminals, resulting in the neutralisation of one of the suspects while the others managed to escape into the forest.

“The scene has been visited by the Divisional Police Officer Bokkos division, and the corpse was deposited at the Bokkos Public Morgue.”

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Olugbemiga Adesina, in the statement, assured the residents of the state that the command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.

Adesina also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies, as investigations are ongoing, with plans to arrest the suspects who escaped.
