Swerve Strickland feels a new level of security since signing his new AEW contract.

The former AEW Champion inked a new deal with the company before AEW All In. Just prior to dropping the title to Bryan Danielson, he signed a big-money contract that was said to be one of the most lucrative in company history.

Swerve Strickland spoke with the No-Contest Wrestling podcast about his new contract. He revealed that the new deal gave him security, while also mentioning how Terry Taylor inspired him to change the wrestling world.

“It feels like security,” Swerve Strickland said about his new AEW contract. “Besides the physical things, it honestly feels like I wasn’t afraid to leave the lunch table. I’m the one who got up and said, ‘I’m going to do it.’ And that’s what this is all really about: don’t be afraid to be the one to get up and do it. Somebody has to.”

“There’s something Terry Taylor used to say. ‘Somebody in this room is going to change the business. Why not you?’. I remember texting him recently and saying, ‘I remember you told our class that, while we were watching tape one day: somebody’s going to change the business. Why can’t it be you?’ I took that to heart. I challenged myself on that. Even without telling him. I didn’t know how I was going to do it, I didn’t have a plan in mind, but I had every intention of changing the business and leaving my mark, somehow, some way.

“For those who say it’s not enough. That I didn’t do this or didn’t follow that. Of course, there’s always more to do. But what I’ve done up to this point? If I were to pass tomorrow, I’d be more than happy and satisfied with it.”
