In an exclusive chat with SPORT, Wojciech Szczesny has all but confirmed his imminent move to FC Barcelona.

Szczesny has emerged as the top target for the Blaugrana in their bid to reinforce the goalkeeping position after the season-ending injury to captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper had announced his retirement last month, after terminating his contract at Juventus, as he intended to spend more time with his family.

However, Barcelona’s approach has now made him reconsider the situation, with Szczesny admitting that he is indeed in talks with the club.

“I respect Barça’s history very much; they are one of the best clubs in the world. I understand the difficult situation that has been generated after the injury of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and I think it would be disrespectful on my part not to consider this option,” said Szczesny.

Barcelona have already made a contract offer for the former Juventus and Arsenal shot-stopper.

With the goalkeeper himself admitting that talks are ongoing, a move could very well be imminent.

However, Szczesny still has to resolve some contractual matters with Juventus, considering that he will be owing a payment to the Bianconeri as per the terms agrees between the two parties when his contract was terminated.

If he completes the transfer, Szczesny would need to pay a sum of €2 million to Juventus.

Everything indicates that he will join the club in the coming week and compete with Inaki Pena for the starting spot.
