A selection of Manchester United fans have made their thoughts clear regarding Marcus Rashford’s controversial week.

The forward was again overlooked by Ruben Amorim for this evening’s Carabao Cup tie away to Tottenham Hotspur after also being omitted from the squad for last Sunday’s Manchester derby. Alejandro Garnacho was also absent but was restored to the teamsheet tonight, albeit as a substitute.

Reports on Wednesday confirmed that Rashford had been made to leave training earlier in the week due to a high temperature. However, when pressed on the reasoning behind his missing No.10, Amorim again confirmed it was due to a selection matter – not a case of injury or fitness.

It comes after a candid admission from the 27-year-old that he was ready to try a ‘new challenge’ away from Old Trafford.

“For me personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” he told journalist Henry Winter.“When I leave, it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

“If I know that a situation is already bad, I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past, and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave, I’ll make a statement, and it will be from me.”

For a player, especially a homegrown Carrington graduate, to be so forthcoming about a potential exit is pretty unheard of nowadays, and it certainly took supporters by surprise to see Rashford come clean about his desires.

Some took it worse than others, evidently, as a handful of Reds in the away end tonight have unveiled a banner which reads: “Excuses. Ta ra, Marcus.”
