Bet of the day
Charlton to beat Huddersfield @ 1/1
While Birmingham have the League One title all but sealed up, the second automatic promotion spot is still up for grabs and the teams contention are tightly packed, making Saturday’s clash between fourth-placed Charlton and sixth-placed Huddersfield a huge one.
The Terriers began the season looking like automatic promotion contenders but have lost their way recently, losing four of their last six games and parting ways with manager Michael Duff earlier this month.
A 5-1 win over third-bottom Crawley will have boosted the mood slightly but the Red Devils are not the strongest benchmark and Huddersfield are unlikely to have anywhere near as much joy at the Valley, where Charlton have been imperious of late.
The Addicks are unbeaten in 11 home matches, winning their last seven, and they are likely to have too much for the Terriers on Saturday.
Special of the day
Both teams to score, over 2.5 goals & Morgan Gibbs-White anytime goalscorer in Brighton vs Nottingham Forest @ 5/1
Given Brighton and Nottingham Forest’s two Premier League meetings this term have provided 11 goals, it seems fair to expect plenty of action when the pair meet in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Over 2.5 goals has landed in Brighton’s last six league games and looks a decent bet again in this cup match, with both sides likely to contribute to the tally.
Both teams have scored in five of Forest’s last seven matches and their last trip to the Amex was a 2-2 draw in September.
The Reds’ talismanic forward Chris Wood suffered an injury while away with New Zealand and while he appears to have avoided a major problem, he may not be risked for this cup tie, with Forest’s top-four push being the priority and the goals may have to come from other sources.
Morgan Gibbs-White could provide a threat from midfield in Wood’s absence and the England star, who netted in Forest’s 7-0 rout of Brighton last month, rates a solid anytime scorer pick to round out the bet builder.
Long shot of the day
Paudie O’Connor anytime goalscorer for Lincoln vs Wycombe @ 21/2
Lincoln have enjoyed an inconsistent season and are going to have to settle for a mid-table finish in League One, but their impressive set-piece prowess has been a feature of their performances.
The Imps have netted 25 league goals from set-pieces this term, three more than any other side in the division, and they may need to make the most of those opportunities if they are to get a positive result at Wycombe, who are just three points off the automatic promotion places.
If they can earn some set-plays and put in more dangerous deliveries, it would be no surprise to see Paudie O’Connor pouncing on any opportunities.
The Irish defender already has three League One goals this season and he is a big price to add to that tally against a side who struggle against set-pieces. Thirteen of the 36 goals Wycombe have shipped in League One have come from such situations.
