Bet of the Day - Arsenal Women v Real Madrid Women - Over 3.5 goals - 23/20
Arsenal will have to turn around a 2-0 deficit in the second leg of their Women’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Real Madrid if they are to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.
The first leg in Madrid was marred by the shocking state of the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano pitch, but there should be no such issues on the carpet-like surface at the Emirates on Wednesday night.
The Gunners were beaten in Madrid, but Renee Slegers’ side won the shot count 13-5, the corner count 10-0 and they had more of the ball than Real.
The 2-0 loss seems a pretty harsh reflection of the play in the first leg between the teams and Arsenal have history over turning the tables at this stage of the competition.
The Gunners are looking to reach an eighth Champions League semi-final, and the last time they were at this stage of the competition they lost an away first leg, 1-0 at Bayern Munich, before prevailing 2-0 in the return contest in London.
Slegers’ side hammered four goals past Liverpool at the Emirates in the WSL at the weekend and the Gunners have hit 45 goals in 17 league games this season.
Arsenal scored 17 times in their six Champions League group-stage matches and it’s clear the north London ladies have the class, firepower and quality to turn the tie.
At the prices, backing over 3.5 goals look the best way to side with a Gunners success.
Longshot of the Day - Arsenal Women to beat Real Madrid Women 3-1 @ 17/2
At a huge price, a speculative punt on Arsenal to beat Real Madrid 3-1 could also pay dividends.
The profile of the two teams is goals, and with the state of the tie meaning Arsenal have to attack, it’s not difficult to see a high-scoring clash.
Real had games in the group stage of the competition twice finishing 3-2, as well as 7-0, 4-0 and 3-0, while Arsenal’s section C matches saw scorelines of 3-1, 3-2, 4-0, 4-1 and 5-2.
It would be no surprise to see a goal crazy contest at the Emirates and backing a 3-1 Arsenal victory could be worth a punt on the correct score market.
Special of the Day - Lyon vs Bayern Munich - Over 2.5 goals @ 4/11
Lyon crushed Bayern Munich 2-0 in Germany in the first leg of their Women’s Champions League quarter-final tie and Les Fenottes are unlikely to take their foot off the gas at the Groupama Stadium.
Joe Montemurro’s women hit 20 shots at the FC Bayern Campus, limited the home side to only one effort on target and created all of the big chances.
Les Fenottes were value for more than a two-goal victory, and with Bayern now having to chase the tie, things could get messy for Alexander Straus’s side.
Lyon look like the most likely challengers to Barcelona when it comes to outright Champions League glory, and Montemurro’s women can show why with a wide-margin second-leg success over Bayern.
