It's back to league action on Friday with several teams looking to steal a march on their rivals by getting three points on the board.

For today's tips, we're heading to the industrial heartland of Germany, the south of France and the Steel City of Sheffield for some iron-clad selections.

Bet of the day

Borussia Dortmund to win and Both Teams to Score - 15/8 boosted from 7/4

Borussia Dortmund wasted the opportunity to put pressure on their top-four Bundesliga rivals when they were held by Heidenheim last Friday night.

Edin Terzic's team should not make that mistake against Freiburg when they play in front of their own fans and probably welcome Jadon Sancho back into the side.

The on-loan Manchester United winger missed last weekend's 0-0 draw with a muscle strain and was badly missed as the usually potent Dortmund team failed to score for only a second time this season.

That was their third clean sheet in the last four league outings, but conceding goals and then trying to outscore opponents has been the routine for the Black and Yellows at home this term.

Dortmund have beaten Monchengladbach 4-2 and Bochum 3-1 either side of a 2-3 loss to Leipzig and a 1-1 draw with Mainz in their last four at Signal Iduna Park.

Visiting Freiburg have lost each of their last two Bundesliga games by the same score, 3-1, and could be left with a familiar sinking feeling on Friday night.

Dortmund to win with both teams to get on the scoresheet looks an attractive play on this occasion too at odds that have been boosted from 7/4 to 15/8.

Special of the day

Barry Bannan to be shown a card - 9/5 boosted from 13/8

Sheffield Wednesday must bounce back from a 4-0 beating at Huddersfield last weekend when they host Birmingham City in what could be a spicy Championship clash.

There is much at stake for both clubs with the Owls sat in 23rd place on 23 points and the Blues only four points clear of the drop zone themselves.

Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan issued a rallying call to his teammates in the wake of last weekend's hammering and it will be up to the experienced Scot to set the tone in front of the live TV cameras at Hillsborough.

No stranger to a yellow card, Bannan has been cautioned eight times in total this season and looks a good shout to find his way into the referee's notes again.

The former Villa and Palace man was booked for a sliding challenge that took out Siriki Dembele when these two clubs met in November — one of five Wednesday players that were carded in the clash.

Long shot of the day

Marseille and Metz to draw and both teams to score  - 6/1

Friday's Ligue 1 fixture features mid-table Marseille playing host to relegation-threatened Metz at Orange Velodrome.

Gennaro Gattuso's men are unbeaten at home in the league this season with six wins and four draws, but their general form has taken a downturn of late and they could struggle to kill off the visitors.

It took a 77th-minute penalty for second-placed Nice to finish them off on their last away trip and they pushed Paris Saint-Germain harder than most expected in a 3-1 defeat the time before that.

The Maroons will travel south with a feeling they can get something from a fixture that has seen the spoils shared on five of the last six occasions the teams have met.

Four of those contests saw both teams score and that looks like being a worthy addition to the bet — bumping the odds up to a tasty 6/1 — given Marseille's last two home Ligue 1 matches have finished 1-1 and 2-2.
