As Nigeria joined the global community in commemorating International Women’s Day 2025, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has reiterated the need for urgent and decisive action to break barriers and accelerate women’s inclusion in leadership, governance, and education.

The former Governor of Sokoto State, in a message shared on his social media platforms, celebrated the contributions of women across various sectors, acknowledging their pivotal role in national development. He emphasized that achieving gender equality requires more than rhetoric—it demands practical steps to bridge gaps and dismantle systemic obstacles.

“This year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action,’ is a powerful reminder that words are not enough—we must take bold, decisive steps to close gender gaps, break barriers, and create a more equitable society,” Tambuwal stated. “Investing in women’s education, economic empowerment, and leadership is not just a moral duty—it is a necessity for national growth and development.”

Reflecting on his tenure as Governor of Sokoto State, Tambuwal highlighted his administration’s commitment to gender inclusivity, particularly through the implementation of the 35% Affirmative Action policy in governance. He noted that under his leadership, women were appointed to key positions, including commissioners, permanent secretaries, directors-general, special advisers, and councillors. Additionally, numerous female directors and heads of departments were strategically placed to enhance women’s representation in decision-making roles.

Beyond governance, Tambuwal underscored the importance of women’s education and capacity-building as critical elements for sustainable development. He pointed to the establishment of the Sokoto State Agency for Girl-Child Education during his administration, a move aimed at expanding educational opportunities for girls and promoting literacy. According to him, empowering young girls through education remains fundamental in ensuring their active participation in shaping society.

“As a nation, we must move beyond promises and act with urgency to ensure that women have access to opportunities, resources, and representation. We cannot afford to leave half of our population behind,” he stated.

Tambuwal also paid tribute to women across Nigeria and beyond who continue to challenge stereotypes, break barriers, and drive positive change in their communities.

“To all the women making a difference—your resilience inspires us all. Your dreams are valid, your contributions are invaluable, and your success is a victory for us all,” he said.

As International Women’s Day 2025 is observed worldwide, Tambuwal’s message stands as a clarion call for sustained action towards gender parity, reaffirming his unwavering support for women’s empowerment in all facets of society.
