Taylor Swift won the night’s first award during the main telecast of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards and remembered 9/11.

During her acceptance speech for Best Collaboration, Swift took the opportunity to remember the victims of the tragic event.

“Waking up this morning in NY on Sept. 11, I’ve just been thinking about what happened 23 years ago, everyone who lost a loved one & everyone that we lost,” Swift said.

She continued, “And that is the most important thing about today & everything that happens tonight falls behind that.”

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote on Instagram. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
