Taz and Jordynne Grace have seemingly squashed their short-lived beef on social media.
Earlier this morning, TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace tweeted a gym photo with the caption, “Beat me if you can. Survive if I let you.”
This was seen a couple of hours later by the originator of the catchphrase, All Elite Wrestling commentator and ECW legend Taz, who responded to the post by letting Grace know that the catchphrase was trademarked, tweeting back:
“Swing and a miss! #trademarked,” Taz said in a post.
Grace was clearly taken aback by Taz’s words and sent out the following post in response:
“Not being able to quote legends that I’ve emulated for years wasn’t in my pro wrestling handbook, but duly noted,” Jordynne Grace said in a post.
Taz issues a heartfelt video statement
Earlier this evening, Taz returned to social media to post a heartfelt video message explaining his side of things and essentially apologizing to Grace for overreacting. Giving the following statement:
“I just want to touch on this real quick. Earlier today, I reacted to a tweet by Jordynne Grace, who posted something with my catchphrase, a picture of her looking ripped and jacked and stuff, and said, beat me if you can. Survive if I let you. So I don’t know Jordynne Grace. I mean, I know of her. Obviously, I’m actually a fan of her work.
“I don’t have her phone number. She don’t have mine. We don’t follow each other on social media. I was not tagged on the tweet, so I didn’t know like she was paying homage to me until I saw her later tweet. So I didn’t know that because I’ve been burned before. I’ve been doing this a long time, and I’ve had people make money off me, and I try to protect all of my trademarks because I’m proud of it.
“So some fans think it’s petty to say something, but it’s not, it’s just being protective of stuff you built. It’s not being petty. And if you think it’s petty, then you might be someone who maybe never really had something like that. When you worked really hard for something, and you spent a lot of money to protect it, and all the years you built it, you just don’t give that up. But to the contrary, at times, am I a little hypersensitive to this? Yes. Am I a little gun-shy? For sure.
Taz is hypersensitive about his trademarks
“Yes, that’s where I could be a little bit gun-shy. I said that word before, and that’s the right word because of people making money over me in the past. And I don’t get a ton of credit for a lot of the things that I brought to the business from really any point of power in the business. And I don’t need that. I don’t care. I’m very confident in what I’ve done. I’m very proud of what I’ve done. So, I don’t need that validation, but I am protective.
“But I have nothing against Jordynne Grace. Like I said, I’m a fan of her work. It was just maybe me jumping the gun. Like I said, I wasn’t tagged. I don’t even know if this person was trying to make money off me, make a t-shirt, or use a catchphrase. I’m not saying she said that, but again, I wasn’t tagged. So whatever, I’m good.
“I’m looking forward to one day crossing paths with Jordynne, and I’m sure we’ll giggle about it and laugh, and that’s that. And I wish her nothing but success. And I mean that, so that’s the deal. I wanted to come out here and talk about it instead of typing like a tweet because when you’re reading text, it can get lost in translation. So I figured, let me just come out here and say it. That’s it. Thank you, guys. Talk to you soon.”

Jordynne Grace confirms that the tweet was a homage
Grace was quick to respond to Taz and explained where the inspiration for her post this morning came from, tweeting back:
“All good!! I was mostly surprised. I don’t tag because I don’t ever want to seem like a boot licker, but I got you next time. Watching an old match of you vs Bigelow and wrestling at the ECW arena this weekend inspired the tweet, 100% an homage! We got the same body type *handshake emoji*,” Jordynne Grace said in a post.
At the end of the day, this was simply another situation in which things get lost in translation in the world of social media.
