The Transmission Company of Nigeria has refuted claims made by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company that TCN’s maintenance activities were responsible for power delivery issues experienced by BEDC customers.
In a press statement released on Saturday, TCN accused BEDC of disseminating inaccurate information and urged it to provide factual updates to its consumers.
The dispute stems from a social media announcement by BEDC on March 14, 2025, attributing its inability to supply power to its 33kV customers to TCN’s maintenance work.
However, TCN clarified that its planned outage at the Amukpe Transmission Station on March 11, 2025, was completed on the same day, and bulk power supply was restored.
In the statement, the General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, Ndidi Mbah, said, “For clarification purposes, TCN only applied for a planned outage on March 11, 2025, at the Amukpe Transmission Station, which was completed on the same day and bulk power supply restored.
“Contrary to BEDC’s claims, TCN’s maintenance activities did not cause the power delivery issues experienced by BEDC’s customers.”
TCN acknowledged that the Ughelli/Shell 33kV feeder T1 60MVA did trip due to a fault on March 14, 2025, and confirmed that it is actively working to restore bulk power supply to the affected feeder.
However, the company emphasised that all other areas mentioned by BEDC as experiencing power delivery issues were due to faults on BEDC’s own 33kV feeders.
“The only accurate statement in BEDC’s publication was regarding the Ughelli/Shell 33kV feeder T1 60MVA, which tripped due to a fault on 14th March 2025..
“TCN is currently working to restore bulk power supply to the affected feeder. It is essential to note that all other areas mentioned by BEDC in their release, experiencing power delivery issues, are a result of faults on their own (BEDC’s) 33kV feeders,” Mbah said.
The statement further urged BEDC to prioritise accurate communication with its customers, stating, “TCN urges BEDC to please provide accurate information to its customers, stating facts as they are, for the benefit of all stakeholders.”
