Manchester United are preparing to sanction the exit of a host of senior players at the end of the campaign.
Indeed, Christian Eriksen, Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof are all seeing out the final seven months of their contracts at Old Trafford. Amad Diallo and Harry Maguire’s terms also expire next June, though both have one-year options included in their deals, with the former currently locked in negotiations over an extension.
It remains to be seen where Evans, 36, and Heaton, 38, will choose to take their expertise when their United tenures draw to a close. The senior duo may opt to hang up their boots (and gloves) entirely, ending their careers on a high with England’s most successful club.
As for Eriksen and Lindelof, they’ve already begun garnering interest from clubs across Europe who are keen on acquiring the experienced Reds as free agents. They’re free to open talks with foreign clubs next month, so fans can expect speculation to increase if either player engages with other sides.
Serie A giants prepare to go toe-to-toe for Lindelof
(Photo by Alex Livesey/Getty Images)Lindelof may well have his pick of some pretty prestigious destinations. The Swede, who picked up an injury during the November international break, is believed to be being targeted by both Inter Milan and AC Milan.
He only turned 30 in July and undoubtedly has more to give to a top European team, but United know better than to keep him in the ranks beyond next summer. Lindelof – hailed as ‘technically brilliant’ by counterpart Harry Maguire – has been plagued with fitness issues over the last season-and-a-half, making him far too inconsistent to depend upon throughout the course of a season.
“The Red Devils centre-back Victor Lindelof seems destined to change air,” InterLive reported.
“The former Benfica player will not renew his contract with the English club, first with [Erik] ten Hag and now with [Ruben] Amorim. He has not found space, and the trend certainly will not change between now and the summer months. This is why the Swede could be the great opportunity that Inter were waiting for – a quality profile but, above all, great experience, who would have no difficulty integrating instantly into [Simone] Inzaghi’s chessboard.”
