Teddy Long’s tenure as WWE General Manager was packed with unforgettable catchphrases, but few were as iconic as, “One on one with The Undertaker.” Now, Long is opening up about how Vince McMahon’s leadership inspired one of his most famous lines.
Speaking on Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway, The Undertaker himself, Long shared a behind-the-scenes moment with McMahon that changed his approach to promos forever. The incident took place at Madison Square Garden, where Vince was giving his daughter, Stephanie McMahon, a lesson in the art of making introductions pop.
“Stephanie went out and introduced somebody, and when she came back, Vince was waiting,” Long recalled. “He wasn’t cussing her out, but he was telling her, ‘When you introduce people, I want you to put some emphasis on it. Make it mean something.’ He kept waving his hands, and I got it.”
Long said he took that lesson straight to the ring that night.
“I made my first introduction, ‘One on one with The Undertaker.’ When I came back, Vince gave me a thumbs-up. He didn’t even know I was standing there during his talk with Stephanie, but I remembered everything. I knew what he wanted,” Long revealed.
The line became a hallmark of Long’s WWE career, often signaling a night of reckoning for whichever superstar had stepped out of line.
