Nixon Newell, formerly known as Tegan Nox, looks back on working with Becky Lynch.
Nox faced Lynch on the October 9th, 2023, episode of WWE RAW. The match marked a big opportunity for Nox, who didn’t get many chances to compete in high-profile singles matches on the main roster.
Speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Newell looked back on working with Becky Lynch. She admitted that she wasn’t proud of her own performance, and she wished they could have run it back.
“[I’m] not necessarily proud of that match,” she said. “I think it could have gone a lot better on my end. That wasn’t my best performance, and I know it wasn’t. I was so incredibly nervous. I think that’s one of the few times that my nerves got the better than me in a match. So, I would have loved to have been able to run that back.”
Newell made it clear that she was “incredibly grateful” that she had the chance to work with Lynch. She stated that Lynch pushed to work with her.
“She’s such a nice person, she asked for all the people that she wanted to work with, which is wild, for her to even go, “I want to work with Nixon,”‘ Newell said. “I think even though it wasn’t my best performance, it made people go, “Oh, she can actually wrestle”. I’m like, “Yes, and I can do better than that, if you give me the chance.
“Unfortunately, I never got the chance to show that. But that entire situation with Becky was just mind-blowing, and something that I will hold very dear to me, not just the rest of my career, but for the rest of my life.”
Tegan Nox: I Just Don’t Think It Was My Time
Newell went on to reiterate that Lynch fought for her to get the match, and she admitted that she didn’t think there were plans for her afterwards.
“I think it was a case of Becky wanted to work with me, so I did,” she said. I was hoping it would go somewhere. I was hoping people would go, “Oh, she can actually wrestle. Like, let’s give her something”.
“But there’s so many people in that company that it’s hard to get on your feet and running unless something insane happens. I just don’t think it was my time.”
