Hyderabad: In a rare and significant seismic event, Telangana experienced one of its strongest earthquakes in the past 20 years, registering a magnitude of 5.3. The epicenter of the earthquake was identified near Mulugu in northern Telangana. The tremors were felt across the state, including in Hyderabad, causing widespread alarm among residents.
The earthquake struck at 7:27 AM, with reports of mild tremors in areas like Gachibowli and surrounding localities in Hyderabad. Residents rushed out of their homes and buildings as the tremors lasted for a few seconds, marking a rare occurrence in a region not typically prone to strong seismic activity.
The earthquake originated in the Godavari river basin, an area that has witnessed mild seismic activity in the past. However, this is the strongest earthquake reported in recent memory, sparking concerns about potential aftershocks or structural damage in the affected areas.
