In a post on his official X handle, Pavel shed light on how the Telegram team has been instrumental in the app’s growth.
Telegram has grown to become one of the top five most downloaded apps, with over 950 million active users. The platform has expanded to include various tap-to-earn games, enhancing both participation and monetization.
Durov Praises Telegram Team for Rapid Feature Implementation
The Telegram founder mentioned that he proposed ten new improvements to the Telegram app, and by the end of that same day, the team had already created mockups for the changes. By the next day, the complete and functional versions of these updates were implemented into the platform. He said:
“I love the Telegram team. Just yesterday, I suggested 10 improvements to our apps. We had mockups ready the same day, and today, we already have fully functional builds with these features implemented.”
The added features include five improvements to Gift, which are likely to enhance how users send and receive gifts on the app. Telegram announced on October 5 that it is launching “Gift”, a new way to congratulate people on the platform. These gifts can either be displayed on the recipient’s profile or converted into Stars. Telegram Stars can be used for various purposes, such as supporting content creators or purchasing services in mini apps.
Durov disclosed on his Telegram channel that some Gifts are in limited supply. Later this year, Telegram will allow users to convert these limited-edition gifts into NFTs based on the TON blockchain. Users can also sell and trade them on platforms or marketplaces outside Telegram, with ownership recorded on the blockchain.
Other features include three changes to hashtags, which are expected to improve how conversations are organized and found within the app. With the new upgrade, users can now add media to a message even after it has been sent, and they can view the time a message was edited.
Other Recent Features and Updates by Telegram to Elevate User Experience
These new features follow an upgrade made in September. The team announced last month that they had reached 10 million paid Telegram subscribers. Alongside this achievement, they introduced new features and discontinued older ones.
Telegram removed the “People Nearby”, which had low usage (less than 0.1% of users) and was vulnerable to misuse by bots and scammers. It was replaced with a new feature called “Businesses Nearby”, allowing verified businesses to showcase products, display catalogs, and accept payments securely.
The messaging app also disabled new media uploads to its blogging tool, Telegraph, due to misuse by anonymous users. Recently, Telegram improved its video chats, added new content reporting options, and introduced other enhancements to the platform.
