Nigerian female singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems has expressed appreciation to veteran singer and songwriter, Seyi Sodimu best known for his 1997 hit single ‘Love Me Jeje,’ which Tems sampled in her award-winning track of the same title.
TheNewsGuru reports that Tems won the Best African Music Performance award for her song ‘Love Me Jeje’ at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night.
She clinched the award, beating Yemi Alade, Asake & Wizkid, Davido & Lojay, and Burna Boy, who were also nominated in the same category.
However, the 29-year-old singer came under heavy criticisms for not acknowledging Sodimu in her acceptance speech.
Folowing the backlash, the singer on Monday via her X account him for his support, describing Love Me Jeje as a “timeless classic.”
“I just want to thank the wonderful @seyimusic for his role in the support and clearing of his OG song Love Me Jeje. It’s brought the original song back to life for me, and I’m glad that it’s getting its flowers today. A timeless classic. I appreciate you so much. Thank you for your love and support,” she wrote.
