Medical personnel in Jos, the Plateau State capital, are currently working to save the life of Hon. Christopher Audu, the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, after he was allegedly attacked by delegates during a primary election.

The election, held on Thursday, turned violent after Hon. Audu was declared the winner. According to an observer, Michael Bulus, the process was initially peaceful. However, tension escalated when some delegates and PDP members, who had been denied access to the hall, forced their way in and directly confronted the TIC Chairman.

“The mob mercilessly beat Hon. Audu, accusing him of manipulating the process to secure his victory,” Bulus said.

It was also alleged that Hon. Audu had handpicked his loyalists to serve as delegates, thereby preventing the genuine delegates from participating in the election.

Following the attack, the council chairman was urgently moved out of Ba’ap, the headquarters of Qua’an Pan LGA, to an undisclosed location for medical treatment. Reports indicate that he sustained serious injuries from the assault.

In addition to attacking Hon. Audu, the enraged delegates reportedly also assaulted officials from the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) who were overseeing the election.

As of now, the party has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
