Niger has just announced that they are restricting flights from Nigeria from using its airspace.
The country announced that both national and international flights are suspended. It clarified that the restrictions do not affect international flights that fly over Nigerian airways but do not stop in the country.
The release further stated that the Niger airways remains closed for all military, operational and other special flights. It gave conditions to allow military and special flights to fly in and out of the country or via its airways.
Tension has been growing between Niger and Nigeria following the military takeover of power in Nigeria. While Nigeria is against the junta, along with its President, Bola Tinubu who is the Chairman of the Economic Community of West Africa States, ECOWAS, the Nigerien coup leaders are seeking ways to retain control fighting off any possible interference.
