The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted the authenticity of a list of candidates for chairmanship and councillorship positions that has been circulating on social media.

In a statement released by the party’s State Chairman, MacDonald Ebere, and conveyed through his Special Adviser on Media, Julian Chijioke, the party urged the public to disregard the unofficial list.

The controversy comes as tension rises in various local councils ahead of the upcoming council elections slated for September 21, 2024. There have been reports of discontent and allegations of candidate imposition in some areas.

The APC assured the public that an official list, duly signed by the party’s leadership, would be released through authorized channels.

The statement read, “Please disregard any information coming from unauthorized or unscrupulous sources at this time.

“Authentic information regarding the outcome of APC Chairmanship and Councillorship primaries in Imo State will be communicated through a signed notice from the official media handles of either the Office of the State Party Chairman, Imo APC, or the State Publicity Secretary of the party. The list currently disseminated online is fake and should be disregarded.”
