Four farmers were killed by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in the border community of Kerawa in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack occurred on Thursday between 12 and 1 p.m. while the farmers were working on their fields.

This incident comes nearly two months after multiple explosions in Gwoza town claimed the lives of over 30 people.

Bukar Aji, the Councillor of Jimini Ward, and Yakubu Ali, Chairman of the Kerawa Community Association, confirmed the attack via telephone.

Kerawa is a border town with Cameroon, located in the Mandara mountains, an area known to harbor terrorist groups.

When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gwoza division said he was unaware of the incident but promised to verify the report. The DPO speculated that the attack might have occurred in Kerawa, Cameroon, rather than the Nigerian Kerawa, citing a similar incident in Kerawa, Cameroon, weeks earlier, which was mistakenly believed to have taken place in Nigeria.

Gwoza was once declared the caliphate of Boko Haram after it was captured by the group in 2014 but was later reclaimed by the Nigerian military.
