TESCOM Chairman, Victoria Peregrino
The Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission, Lagos, Victoria Peregrino, has implored teachers to be ready to invest in themselves in the technological system if they must remain relevant in the new world order.
She gave the advice in her remarks at the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop organised by the commission for teachers on GLs 15-17, drawn from all the education districts in the state.
In a Thursday statement, Peregrino noted that the teaching world had reached a great milestone never achieved in history, with the advent of technological innovations and the emergence of digital platforms.
She further disclosed that the two-day workshop was carefully designed, bearing in mind that the 21st-century teaching methodology had been greatly characterised by constant changes and disruption of the old order.
The chairman reiterated the government’s commitment to continuous training and retraining of teachers across all levels to build their capacity to meet the 21st-century educational challenges.
Welcoming participants to the workshop, the Permanent Secretary of the commission, represented by the Director of Teachers Education and Capacity Development, Abidemi Aloba, thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his continued support to the education family, especially TESCOM.
The director implored participants to maximise the opportunities inherent in the two-day workshop which was designed to deepen their knowledge of technology and bring about overall improvements in transforming the students and public confidence in the teachers.
The opening ceremony had board members of the commission, Dr Segun Agbaje, representing District III and Abimbola Adeola Idowu, representing District IV, in attendance.
They both advised participants to be active, make it a participatory workshop and get the best of the opportunity to improve their performances in their various classrooms.
The theme of the two-day workshop, held at the Teaching Service Staff Development Centre, Owutu, Ikorodu, is “Creating and Maintaining A Technology-Infused Classroom for Advanced Level Teacher GLs 15-17.”
