IMG Credit: AEWThere’s a reason for that. With so many wrestlers on the AEW roster, it can be almost impossible to find something for everyone to do. On occasion, wrestlers will be stuck sitting on the sidelines for long stretches, waiting to get another show. AEW has a track record of not releasing wrestlers, but that changed this week. Now we know a bit more about what happened and why.

Earlier this week, AEW released ten names, including eight wrestlers. According to PWInsider.com, the releases had nothing to do with cutbacks to the company’s budget, but rather an effort to reorganize the way the roster is used. Part of the goal is to allow wrestlers who are not being used a chance to do other things without being held back by AEW. There is also the chance that some of the names could be used again in the future.
There were some talented people let go. Check out some of their time in AEW:
Opinion: The financial aspect not being a major factor makes sense here as the names released weren’t exactly top talents in the company. As is the case with any promotion, there does come a point where AEW needed to just drop some people who were not doing anything. It was a waste of time to have them on the roster any longer, both for AEW and the wrestlers, so hopefully everyone can move on to a better place as a result.
