Netflix has bulked up its slate to include many a thriller, slasher, horror and other suspenseful films, both original to the streamer and classic, for October and the spookiest month of the year.
Several options for other moods arrived on the first of the month for viewers to choose from including 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street, 8 Mile, The Birds, Bridesmaids, It Chapter Two, Halloween (2018), Psycho, Psycho II, Scarface and more.
Scream arrives later on in the month on Oct. 11. Fans of Yellowjackets will rejoice as Season 1 of the Showtime horror series is now streaming on Netflix as well. Below find a roundup of the best new films streaming on Netflix in October 2024.
Judy – October 1
Those counting down the days for the next Bridget Jones movie starring Renée Zellweger can check out another one of her notable works portraying Judy Garland in the biopic Judy(2019), which arrives on the streamer Nov. 1. Also in the cast are Jessie Buckley as Rosaly Wilder, Finn Wittrock as Mickey Deans, Michael Gambon as Bernard Delfont, Rufus Sewell as Sid Luft, Bella Ramsey as Lorna Luft and more.
It’s What’s Inside – October 4
Those in the mood for a thriller can enjoy It’s What’s Inside from writer and director Greg Jardin. Produced by actor Colman Domingo and his husband Raúl, this film focuses on a pre-wedding celebration gone wrong as friends reunite only to be thrown off by an estranged member of their old social circle. This wild card figure brings a game that disrupts the peace of the friend group. The film stars Brittany O’Grady, James Morosini, Gavin Leatherwood, Nina Bloomgarden, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Reina Hardesty, Devon Terrell and David Thompson.
Lonely Planet – October 11
Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth strike up a romance in Lonely Planet, out on Netflix on Oct. 11. Dern plays a newly single novelist who attends a writer’s retreat in Morocco where she forms an unexpected connection with Liam Hemsworth’s striking young man. The romantic drama hails from Erin Brockovich director Susannah Grant.
A Quiet Place Part II – October 12
With the prequel film A Quiet Place: Day One now streaming on Paramount+ in addition to the original A Quiet Place, Netflix will have A Quiet Place Part II (2021) available to watch starting Oct. 12. The sequel film to the original, directed by John Krasinski, provides jump scares and adrenaline in a suspenseful story that fits right into Halloween horror.
Woman of the Hour – October 18
Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut Is based on a true story. Kendrick also stars in her film as Sheryl Bradshaw, a bachelorette in an episode of The Dating Game, a 1970s blind-dating television show. The third contestant for Bradshaw, Bachelor #3, turns out to be Rodney Alcala, the serial killer who became known as the Dating Game Killer. Daniel Zovatto (It Follows, Lady Bird) plays Rodney Alcala. The film also includes Tony Hale, Nicolette Robinson, Autumn Best, Kathryn Gallagher, Kelley Jakle and Pete Holmes.
Kung Fu Panda 4 – October 21
The latest installment of Kung Fu Panda arrives on Netflix on Oct. 21, and the first and third films in the franchise will be available starting Oct. 1. Po the Panda’s (Jack Black) latest adventure involves befriending a gray fox (voiced by Awkwafina) and facing off against Viola Davis’ chameleon villain.
Time Cut – October 30
Those jonesing for more Outer Banks after the first part of Season 4 arrives on Oct. 10 can catch Madison Bailey in the slasher Time Cut, alongside Antonia Gentry (Ginny and Georgia). The film mixes time travel with horror as Lucy Feld (Bailey) travels from 2024 to 2003 to see her sister (Gentry) who died at the hands of a serial killer. Griffin Gluck and Michael Shanks also star in the film, out on Netflix Oct. 30.
