The Boys only has a handful of seasons under its belt, but it hasn’t stopped Prime Video from spinning it out into a larger franchise. With animated anthologies and college-bound supe antics under its belt, where else can the franchise go but backwards, and also Mexico, eventually?
During the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, the cast and crew of the hit series revealed a new series by the name of Vought Rising was in the works. Like the name implies, the “twisted murdery mystery” will be set in the ’50s and show the Vought Corporation became so powerful of a force it could create its own superheroes. Headlining the show are returning actors Jensen Ackles (Soldier Boy) and Aya Cash (Stormfront), who’ll also executive produce the show alongside Kripke and showrunner Paul Grellong.
“We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V,” said Kripke and Grellong (via Deadline). They sweetened the premise with the promise of seeing Soldier in his heyday and Stormfront’s “diabolical maneuvers” when she was an up-and-coming Clara Vought. Given how…not good Soldier and Stormfront are as people, and this being a murder mystery, you can reasonably expect a lot of dead bodies to follow in their wake over the course of the series. And for Soldier Boy fans, even more good news: Ackles will be a series regular for The Boys’ fifth season after exiting in season three.
Speaking of The Boys, season four continued to be a hit for Prime Video. Viewership shot up by 20%, delivering 55 million viewers worldwide. It now stands as the platform’s fourth-biggest TV season ever, and the second most-viewed season after Reacher season two. When you take that into account, it’s clear why Prime wants more Boys… except for a movie, apparently.
