The Couple Next Door is moving in again.
Channel 4 has renewed the psychological drama for a second season after the first became the UK network’s biggest scripted streaming launch on record, with episode one garnering more than a million views in its first seven days.
Channel 4 co-produced Season 1 of The Couple Next Door with Starz, but the Lionsgate brand was not mentioned in the press release for Season 2. Deadline has asked about Starz’s involvement.
Season 2 will feature a new cast, led by Sam Palladio (Nashville), Annabel Scholey (The Split), Aggy K Adams (The Witcher), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (One Piece). Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered) will return. Production is underway in Belgium. Season 1 starred Eleanor Tomlinson and Sam Heughan.
Here’s the logline: “Heart surgeon Charlotte Roberts (Scholey) and her husband, consultant anesthetist Jacob (Palladio) are a high-flying busy married couple. But things soon turn upside down when their mysterious new hospital colleague Mia (Adams) rents out the house next door.
“Working her way into Charlotte and Jacob’s confidence and eventually their bed, Mia also quickly befriends cul-de-sac outcast Alan (Dennis) whilst Charlotte has to handle the reappearance of past flame Leo (Ramamurthy). It’s not long before Mia’s past comes back to haunt her, leading Charlotte and Jacob to question who she really is, especially when patients at the hospital mysteriously start dying.”
David Allison has written Season 2, while Dries Vos directs. Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino serve as executive producers for ITV Studios-backed Eagle Eye Drama and the producer is Jennifer Burnet. The Couple Next Door is produced in association with Happy Duck Films and is supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter. Beta Film distributes the series.
The Couple Next Door is loosely adapted from Scandi drama Fatal Injections made by Kamikaze Film CPH, distributed by Reinvent International Sales, and the Dutch format The Neighbours, made by Millstreet Films.
