The fallout around The CW’s layoffs is starting to emerge.
Deadline understands that scripted boss Liz Wise Lyall and Betsy Slenzak, who is the second in command in terms of unscripted programming, are among those affected.
Earlier today, Deadline revealed that the Nexstar-owned network cut around 35 people, a move that newly installed President Brad Schwartz called “one of the hardest decisions a company can make”.
Wise Lyall was SVP, Scripted Programming, essentially the company’s head of scripted content, overseeing current programming and development including international co-productions (such as its recent ITV co-pro Joan). She has been with The CW for over 14 years, having joined in 2010 from Lifetime. She has worked on series such as Riverdale, The Flash, Arrow and The 100.
She took over both current and development last year.
Slenzak, meanwhile, was VP, Unscripted Programming, having joined from NBCUniversal last year. She reported to Head of Unscripted Programming Heather Olander and oversaw the development and current teams for reality series, events and specials for the network.
Slenzak was previously VP, Entertainment Unscripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, where she worked across reality competition, talent competition and game show formats for networks NBC, Bravo, E! and USA Network and streamer Peacock.
