Ronny Chieng took to The Daily Show to call out Donald Trump for the “weird turn” his campaign has taken to talking about Kamala Harris’s racial identity.

Vice President Harris is of Indian and Jamaican descent, which has confused many Trump supporters, including the former U.S. president.

During an appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists convention this week, Trump drew backlash for questioning Harris’s racial identity.

“She was Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden, she made a turn, and she became a Black person,” Trump said.

Trump went further and took to Truth Social to share a video from 2020 that featured The Office alum Mindy Kaling cooking Masala dosa with Harris. In the video, Kaling called the VP “Crazy Kamala” and a “stone-cold phony.” Kaling tells Harris, “We’re both South Indian.” Harris then replies, “Yes, you look like the entire one-half of my family.”

“Damn, I forgot how weird The Office got after Michael Scott left,” Chieng joked.

Chieng went on to slam Trump, saying, “How did he even find this? Was he doing a deep oppo research on Mindy Kaling’s Instagram page? How far down the Mindy rabbit hole did he go? Is he going to come out next week like, ‘Kamala Harris is not Black, and Mindy and B.J. Novak belong together, OK? Do the right thing B.J. Make an honest Indian out of her.'”

The Daily Show host commented that the video “doesn’t even prove his point,” adding, “He’s saying Kamala identifies as Indian and not Black. And this is a video of her saying, ‘I’m half Indian.’ What does Trump think the other half is? Woman? How does this guy not understand what half means?”

“He constantly tells us he’s a genius, but he can’t comprehend a golden doodle?” Chieng continued before joking, “Also, Trump doesn’t get to decide how Black a Black person is. Only Kendrick Lamar can do that, OK?”
