After scripting the beloved fashion-world dramedy The Devil Wears Prada, starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt, which grossed over $326 million worldwide in its June 2006 debut, Aline Brosh McKenna has been tapped to script a sequel in early development at Disney, sources have confirmed to Deadline.

Reps for the studio declined comment. Whether any original cast members will return is not yet clear, though the original film’s producer, Oscar winner Wendy Finerman, will also be back, we’re told.

Released by 20th Century Fox ahead of Disney’s acquisition of the studio, The Devil Wears Prada is based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name. The story follows Andy Sachs (Hathaway), a recent journalism graduate who moves to New York City and lands a job as a junior assistant to Miranda Priestly (Streep), the powerful and demanding editor-in-chief of a high-fashion magazine. Andy initially struggles with the high-pressure environment and Miranda’s relentless demands but gradually adapts, gaining confidence and style. As she becomes more involved in her work, she faces personal challenges, including a strained relationship with her boyfriend, Nate (Adrian Grenier), and ethical dilemmas about the fashion industry’s values.

Landing a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination for her work in the film, Streep’s other co-stars included Stanley Tucci, Simon Baker, and Adrian Grenier. David Frankel (Marley & Me) served as director of the project.

News of the Devil Wears Prada sequel’s development was first reported on Monday by Puck.
