The double for Leverkusen!

Winner of the Bundesliga for the first time in its history this season, Bayer Leverkusen won the German Cup this Saturday.

And two! Two trophies this season for Bayer, often mocked for its lack of success and a very meager record given the scale of the club readily nicknamed “Neverkusen” across the Rhine.

After winning the first league title in its history, Leverkusen won the German Cup this Saturday by dominating Kaiserslautern in the final. Against the second division residents, Xabi Alonso’s men made the difference by the smallest of margins, and a goal from Xhaka in the 16the minute of play (1-0). And this despite the expulsion of Kossounou at the end of the first period (44e).

This is the second “Pokal” for Bayer, who had already won the competition in 1993. On the other hand, Leverkusen was unable to win a second continental trophy after its triumph in the 1988 UEFA Cup. Three days ago, Hradecky and others suffered the law of Atalanta Bergamo in the final of the Europa League (3-0).
