Public opinion judges Didier Deschamps responsible for the early international retirement of Antoine Griezmann.

After 10 years of good and loyal service under the tricolor tunic, Antoine Griezmann has decided to no longer respond to the call of the flags, now devoting himself to his club: Atlético de Madrid. The person concerned made the official announcement on September 30, not without having suffered from a feeling of downgrading in recent times.

For 56% of French people, if we are to believe the survey conducted these days by Odoxa for Winamax and RTL, Didier Deschamps is the main person responsible for this brutal international retirement of Antoine Griezmann. Notably because the national coach bet on Kylian Mbappé at his expense to inherit the captain’s armband abandoned by Hugo Lloris at the end of the 2022 World Cup.

Mbappé much less appreciated

The loss is considered heavy for the French team, with 82% of respondents believing that the Matelassier will be missed by the Blues, even if 53% of them understand his choice. For 76% of the French people contacted, Antoine Griezmann belongs to the caste of the greatest players in the history of French football, in the same way as Raymond Kopa, Michel Platini or Zinedine Zidane.

The native of Mâcon thus leaves the international adventure with a popularity rating at the top (81% favorable opinion) – a plebiscite that is no longer made by the captain of the Blues Kylian Mbappé, credited with only 54% favorable opinion. For the overwhelming majority of respondents, Antoine Griezmann will be hard to replace within the French collective. The role of technical leader now belongs to Kylian Mbappé for 37% of them – Adrien Rabiot (18%), Ousmane Dembélé (13%) and Bradley Barcola (10%) being also cited.
