Garfield is at No. 1 at the box office, but it’s been a sluggish early summer. The film brought in an additional $14 million in its latest weekend for a domestic total of $51.6 million so far, but the box office is down a whopping 67% from last year due to a lack of big event films, via THR. Year-to-date revenue is now down as much as 26% over last year, according to the report. Mad Max: Furiosa, which cost an expensive $168 million to produce, fell 59% to $10.75 million. John Krasinki’s IF grossed another $10.8 million for a North American tally of $80.4 million. The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes brought in another $9 million, and is the top-grossing film of the summer to date, with over $300 million globally.
