Liverpool have started the new season confidently and they are looking highly competitive this season.

The arrival of new manager Arne Slot has worked in their favour so far, with the Dutch manager making a positive impact on the players and how the team has performed this season.

Slot has been able to revive the Liverpool career of Ryan Gravenberch and Luis Diaz, while also bringing the best out of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Merseyside club are looking good with four wins in five Premier League matches this season.

They are only behind Manchester City in the league at the moment and football pundit Paul Merson expects them to challenge for the league title this season.

However, there is one thing that needs to happen, according to Merson, for the Reds to compete for the league title.

Merson wrote about the title race in his column on Sky Sports and mentioned what Slot’s team needs this season to challenge Man City.

“I think we’ll see Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool fighting it out all season, all the way to the end,” he says.

“The key will be Arsenal and Liverpool keeping all their players fit,” Merson continues.

“Man City have proved they can have a couple of players missing and they will still have easy games where they rack up big wins.

“I’m not so sure it is as easy for Liverpool and Arsenal.

“That’s the difference between them and everybody else.”

Liverpool are on the right track under Arne Slot

Liverpool and Slot have shown so far that they are good enough to challenge for the league title.

Their defense has been rock solid, with the club keeping four clean sheets in their five games this season.

As far as their attack is concerned, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz have been scoring goals for fun.

If someone like Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo or Darwin Nunez can find their goal scoring form in the league, the Reds will be feared this season as they have all their bases covered.

These are still early days but the signs are positive and credit goes to Slot for increasing the standards at the club despite not spending heavily in the transfer market like other clubs.
