The Macallan celebrates 200th anniversary with 73-year-old whiskey

The Macallan, in celebration of its 200th anniversary, unveiled its second edition of ‘The Tales of The Macallan’ for the first time in Africa at an exclusive two-day event held recently at Harbour Point in Lagos.

‘Tales of The Macallan Volume II’, which is the second edition of a series of rare single-malt Scotch whiskies, is a distinguished single malt distilled in 1949 and bottled in 2022, marking a 73-year maturation milestone in the exceptional oak cask.

The two-day event was a blend of art, storytelling, creativity, brand immersion and orchestral performances. The event drew in over 40 high-net-worth individuals from the business and media sectors. The attendees were treated to an exclusive exploration of The Macallan’s inspiration, its exquisite range of whiskies, and their profound historical legacy.

Speaking at the event, Senior Brand Manager, Edrington Portfolio, Hammed Abebiyi, said, “We are incredibly excited to unveil this volume to our Nigerian consumers. This exceptional whisky is a true celebration of our rich heritage, craftsmanship and legacy. It offers a unique and unforgettable experience that reflects the artistry behind each bottle. We are confident that whisky connoisseurs will deeply appreciate the complexity and masterful fusion of flavours that define this rare single malt. We look forward to sharing this extraordinary journey with them.”

Crafted by The Macallan’s lead whisky maker, Euan Kennedy, the ‘Tales of The Macallan’ tells the story of The Macallan pioneer, Alexander Reid, highlighting the whisky-making legacies, and the heritage that has been passed down for generations. The whisky is presented within an almanac and encased in a handcrafted Lalique crystal decanter. The craftsmanship of the decanter goes beyond its intricate illustration, as it is housed within an 800-page book and features illustrations by renowned British illustrator, Andrew Davidson.
