27 Jurgen Klopp is still soaking up the sorrows of Liverpool supporters as he rounds off his farewell tour.
Much to Manchester United fans’ joy, the Reds played an integral role in Klopp going out miserably in his final season at Anfield.
United’s emphatic showing – and Amad Diallo’s late heroics – led to Liverpool crashing out of the FA Cup in the quarter-finals, with Erik ten Hag and his men proceeding to lift the trophy at Wembley after defeating fellow rivals Manchester City.
As well as that, the two sides were held to a 2-2 draw in Klopp’s last visit to Old Trafford in the Premier League. At the time, the Merseyside outfit were in the running to lift the title for just the second time in 30 years, but a string of dismal results saw them finish third when all was said and done.
Klopp aims parting dig Ten Hag’s way
Last night, An Evening with Jurgen Klopp was held at the M&S Bank Arena in front of 11,000 Liverpool supporters, and the German appeared to take a swipe at Ten Hag.
Seemingly referencing the manager’s treatment of on-loan winger Jadon Sancho, Klopp said (DaveOCKOP): “If the whole world loses trust and faith in the player, then the manager has to be the one behind the player.
“I cannot just buy into that ‘he’s useless’ stuff like other clubs did, by the way. Buying a player for £80m and then sending him out on loan!”
Of course, Sancho and Ten Hag notoriously clashed when the latter made comments about his player’s below-par training performances, after which Sancho issued a response on social media insinuating that his coach was lying.
The attacker is currently gearing up for Saturday’s Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund before he officially becomes a United player again. No buy clause was included in his terms, so a decision must be made regarding his future in the coming weeks.
