The Miz has paid tribute to Pat Sajak after the Wheel of Fortune host’s retirement.

The legendary presenter ended 43-years at the helm of the show this week. He appeared in over 8,000 episodes, and was a fixture on TV for numerous generations of American families.

He clearly made a huge mark on American culture, and on The Miz specifically. The former WWE Champion took to Twitter following Sajak’s final episode, writing an emotional tribute to the legendary host.

He mentioned appearing on the show, describing Sajak as “nice” and “down to earth”. He said that he wanted to get to know “Mike”, not The Miz, before thanking him for his service in TV for 42-years.

Thank you, Pat

“Like everyone else, I grew up watching @WheelofFortune. I played along, often guessing the puzzles right of course, and never thought I would ever be a contestant on there. Fast forward, and the coolest thing wasn’t getting to be on Wheel, it was meeting Pat Sajak and Vanna White. Two television icons.”

“And I’m going to just focus on Pat here but you couldn’t have met a nicer more down to earth individual. This person who has adorned our television sets for decades was conversing with me like we were buddies. There was no judgment for me being the loud and brash Miz on TV, he wanted to get to know Mike. And with all the personalities he has met, my experience was that he gave the respect and consideration to each person whether celebrity or not. They don’t make many like Pat Sajak, and it’s why I reserve the phrase icon for him because he is both on and off the screen. Thank you, Pat.”

Sajak said he was stepping away from Wheel because he wanted to end his tenure on his own terms. Ryan Seacrest will be the new host of the game show.
