The Miz is definitely one of the most established and decorated WWE Superstars in the history of the company. In addition to winning several championships in the company, The Miz has seen great success outside the business while being one of the biggest heels in the promotion. That’s why he admitted that he would rather be despised in WWE than be a beloved figure.
Throughout his WWE career, The Miz has predominantly played the role of a heel, with occasional stints as a babyface. Currently, he is portraying a babyface on RAW, teaming with R-Truth. Although the duo recently lost the WWE World Tag Team Titles, they continue to work together.
While speaking in a recent interview with WrestleRant Radio, The Miz talked about his experience with playing a babyface and admitted that he isn’t quite accustomed to it. He expressed his preference for being a heel, stating that he enjoys being disliked and views it as a sign that he is doing his job well.
Miz acknowledged that, after nearly 18 years of being a villain, teaming up with R-Truth, who is universally loved, has been a new experience for him. He praised R-Truth for his versatility and talent, noting how difficult it is to balance humor with seriousness in wrestling. Miz expressed his enjoyment of working with R-Truth and appreciating his contribution to the industry.
“No, I’m not used to it at all. People are like, what would you rather be? It’s like, I love being hated. A lot of people, some bad guys don’t like to be hated. They’ll go on X or Instagram and look at the comments to see if they’re like, ‘oh, I don’t like him, but man, is he cool’. Or I don’t like him, but man, he’s got cool moves. I don’t like that. I want people to despise me and can’t stand me. That’s me doing my job to the best of my ability. Now after, I don’t know what, 18 years of being a bad guy, all of a sudden you attach yourself to R-Truth and you’re going to be beloved because there is no one more beloved in WWE than R-Truth. People always say like, I’m underrated. I don’t think people realize how underrated R-Truth is as a talent. He’s been here longer than everybody else and has been able to evolve and make amazing content. Like he’s taken seriously, but he also can be funny. That’s very difficult to do. Very difficult. Funny is usually you’re not taken seriously. You’re just a goof. Truth is able to find that fine line and I’m loving being along with the rides with him.”
However, The Miz has also expressed uncertainty about competing at the WWE SummerSlam Premium Live Event on August 3rd. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether The Miz will end up turning heel soon enough, as he made it clear he prefers that role.
