Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit has been discussing who he thinks could take the reigns at Old Trafford should Erik ten Hag be removed in the coming months.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been under huge pressure after a disappointing start to the campaign.

The Red Devils have only won two games out of seven and sit 14th in the Premier table heading into game week eight when they face Brentford at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are in much need of a win on the weekend to start to turn the club’s form around.

INEOS has recently discussed Ten Hag’s future but decided to stick with the former Ajax coach for the time being.

One candidate that has been touted as a possible replacement for Ten Hag is Thomas Tuchel but the former Chelsea coach is reportedly in talks for another job.

Peitit has suggested one candidate that he thinks would succeed but suggested they would need certain changes at Old Trafford to agree to the role.

The former Arsenal midfielder believes that under the right circumstances, Zidane would bring back success to Old Trafford.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Petit said: “Honestly, I know a little bit, Zizou [Zidane], and he needs to get guarantees if he wants to sign over there in Manchester United.

“At the moment, the environment at Manchester United for years has not been good.

“The stability of the bench, the level of the players as well, the expectation of the club is not the same that it used to be. United is still a huge club, but not on the pitch anymore. And Zizou is very conscious and very careful about that, the quality of the players.

“Could he manage to overturn the situation over there? I think the only answer is yes. But at the moment, when you look at the team, I’m not convinced at all about the level of some players.

“If he takes the job at Manchester United, that means he’s got solutions. At the moment, I’m not sure a lot of people have the solution to turn the situation at Manchester United.”
