The only way Barcelona can sign 24-year-old Atletico Madrid outcast

Joao Felix’s stint at Barcelona last season generated positive numbers, laying the foundation for his potential return to the club for one more season.

Despite his inconsistencies, the Catalans were willing to sign the player on loan once more. Atletico Madrid’s firm desire to sell the player coupled with the expensive price tag, however, detracted negotiations.

Over the past month, Felix has been linked with clubs from Portugal, England and Spain but no negotiation has come to fruition.

The Barcelona option still remotely exists and SPORT provides an update on the same.

The only formula

As revealed by the Spanish outlet, Barcelona are currently silently spectating how Felix’s future plays out as they wait for a situation similar to last season when they signed him on deadline day.

Given Atletico Madrid’s steep demands, the Catalans can only sign the Portuguese winger at the end of the transfer market when Los Rojiblancos are under pressure to finalize his future.

If such an opportunity arises and the player is still available on the market towards the end of the month, a return on loan may be a possibility.

As it stands, Aston Villa are hesitant to pull the trigger for Felix despite their certain interest while Benfica claim they do not have sufficient funds to push for his signing.

On the flight to Hong Kong

Atletico Madrid have a pre-season friendly scheduled in Hong Kong against Kitchee SC and will then travel to Sweden where they will take on Juventus.

Earlier today, Diego Simeone released the list of players summoned for the first of the two challenges and interestingly included Felix on the list.

The Argentine manager, despite not seeing eye to eye with the winger, gave him a start against Getafe earlier this week in which Felix even scored a goal.

It is thus clear that the manager intends to give the 24-year-old the same treatment as his teammates despite not having him in his plans, at least until his future is resolved and confirmed.
