At the same time, the agency allocated $1.16 billion to Lockheed Martin for the development of Trident II missile installation systems and navigational units on submarines. Deadline – September 29, 2031.

In addition, the Pentagon signed a $6.9 billion contract with Boeing to produce small-caliber bombs for supply to Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Japan. The company must be completed by December 31, 2035.

Trident II D5 – a three-stage intercontinental ballistic missile that is launched from nuclear submarines. Such shells are in service with the US and British navies. The maximum range of the Trident II D5 is 11,300 km.

It was announced in April this year that the US will begin production of the new W93 nuclear warhead for ICBMs for the first time in 40 years. It has been under development since May 2022 at the Department of Energy’s Los Alamos National Laboratory and does not involve nuclear testing, the government and the National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA) said.

A year ago, the NNSA announced that the US would restart a large-scale production of plutonium and will make dozens of new nuclear warheads. The statement was made against the background of Vladimir Putin’s nuclear threats and Russia’s de facto withdrawal from the latest strategic arms treaty.

The NNSA announced plans to start the annual production of 80 plutonium cores – a key element of strategic and tactical warheads and bombs.
