The financial fair play of the Premier League is often singled out by English clubs, notably Manchester City. These rules constrain clubs financially and even sportingly, since Everton and Nottingham Forest were penalized with a withdrawal of points during the season. These legal actions cost the English championship a lot.

As indicated The Times, around €31 million has been spent by the Premier League on legal advice this season. A colossal sum, at a time when some clubs are struggling to get their heads above water financially, and cannot agree on a financial support program. Everton’s first lawsuit cost around €6 million, while the Manchester City case has already cost the English league more than €25 million.
