Once upon a time, the idea of controlling your entire house from your phone would have felt like something out of a sci-fi movie, but fast forward to today, and smart homes (and gadgets) are everywhere. You’ve got lights that turn on when you walk in, fridges that remind you to buy whatever’s needed, and so much more – the fact is that home automation is basically changing the way we live.
But is it really worth the hype? And more importantly, is it time to jump on the smart home bandwagon? Read on to find out.
Imagine sitting nice and cosy on your sofa and you’re watching a great show when you suddenly realise the lights are too bright, or maybe you need to turn them on. Instead of having to get up and get disturbed, you can just use your phone or even speak to a device in your living room, and get the lighting turned on, off, or anywhere in between so it’s just right. Or maybe you’ve left the house and you get the nagging feeling that you forgot to lock the door… well, with a smart home you could check your device and know for sure (and lock or unlock the door as you need to).
So in other words, smart homes are just about being a bit fancy and modern – they can actually make life a lot easier. You can do things like control heating, adjust blinds, check security cameras, and so on, and everything falls into place.
If you’ve ever left the heating on all day by accident, or you’ve kept lights on in a room no one’s using (among other things), you’ll know it’s very easy to waste energy and boost your bills up to a scary level.
However, smart homes can cut down on your energy usage by automating heating, lighting, and appliances so they only work when they’re needed. And many systems can even learn your habits so if you always lower the thermostat at night, your smart home will start doing it for you, and the result is lower energy bills and a greener lifestyle all without lifting a finger.
With so many devices running all the time, battery technology has never been more important, and innovations in battery tabs manufacturing in the UK are definitely helping to make it all work so much better. They’ll make homes more efficient and devices much longer lasting, which means far less hassle and much easier automation.
So in the end, if you love convenience, efficiency, or you just like using cool and new technology, having a smart home makes a lot of sense. Even if you start small with a few smart plugs or a video doorbell, it’s a great start, and you’ll soon see how much easier life gets.
So is it time to automate your life? It could be – once you start looking at the things you could use, you’ll see how much they could help, and you’re sure to want to give at least some of the ideas a good go.
