With WrestleMania 40 behind him and his time in WWE on pause for now, The Rock took to social media to comment on the beginning of his training for his upcoming movie The Smashing Machine.
In a series of tweets, Johnson shared videos of himself training in MMA-style fighting in the middle of a wrestling ring. In an accompanying caption, Johnson said that it was the first day of MMA training for the film, in which he’ll portray UFC fighter Mark Kerr. He stated that it was a humbling, intense, and motivating journey.

In another post, the former WWE Champion wrote that he was learning and sweating daily. He then stated that he was grateful to grow.
The Smashing Machine is an adaptation of the documentary The Smashing Machine: The Life and Times of Mark Kerr. Kerr is a decorated UFC and PRIDE fighter. He is also a former NCAA Division I Champion, among other accolades.
Filming for The Smashing Machine will likely prevent The Rock from appearing on WWE programming in the near future. There is no word on when he will return. WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
