The Rock’s WrestleMania 40 Involvement Linked to TKO Board Position

TKO Holdings Group sent shockwaves in professional wrestling by appointing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to their Board of Directors. This obviously gave him a lot of power and The Rock essentially used it to get himself the main event of WrestleMania 40. In fact, the bout was actually a precondition for The Rock joining TKO in the first place.

The Rock’s role as a part of TKO’s Board of Directors also grants him influence over his choices. This came into play for SmackDown last week, as Cody Rhodes stepped aside to give his WrestleMania 40 spot to The Rock.

The Rock also pushed hard for the WrestleMania 40 bout with Roman Reigns. This is because The Rock wanted to save WrestleMania 40 as the match would be true big money affair.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that part of the deal for The Rock joining TKO’s Board of Directors was him squaring off against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

“When he made the deal on January 3 to come in, that was part of the deal. Why Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble is a question that I cannot answer because nobody will answer it for me.

“The belief was that it was Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes, and nobody knew, but the deal had been made prior to that. It played out the way they wanted it to play out. The plan as of Friday night was Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes.”

WWE is also closely monitoring fan reactions to The Rock’s WrestleMania 40 plans. WWE is still promoting The Rock despite fan backlash. We will have to wait and see how the company will continue to book The Rock and Roman Reigns’ feud till then.
