Aston Villa are reportedly willing to listen to offers for Diego Carlos this summer which could help fund a move for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher.

But if they fail to offload the defender, they may well be forced to sell prized youngster Jacob Ramsey who is attracting interest from some of the Premier League’s top teams.

Even a 5-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on Sunday could dampen Villa’s mood right now, as they will be competing in the Champions League next season for the first time in over 41 years.

Unai Emery will be hoping to improve his squad depth in the upcoming transfer window, with a surprise move for Gallagher on the cards, but the club is wary of spending too much and breaching profit and sustainability rules.

As a result, it is expected that they will make one big sale in order to keep the books balanced, and Telegraph report that the player who will make way is centre-back Carlos.

The 31-year-old moved to Villa Park in 2022 from Sevilla in a deal worth around £26million, though he missed almost the entirety of his debut campaign after rupturing his achilles tendom.

He made 38 appearances across all competitions this season, rotating in and out of the side with Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres, and still has two years left on his contract which earns him a reported £100,000-a-week.

Offloading Carlos would certainly lift a weight off Villa’s wage bill and it is said AC Milan are interested in his services.

But should the Brazilian stays put and the financial situation looks bleak, the Villans may, against their will, listen to offers for Ramsey who has admirers in the form of Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle.

Injury limited the 22-year-old to just 21 appearances this season and he has been sidelined since March with a toe issue, but the energetic midfielder is still very highly thought of.

Villa value the player very highly but may have to lower his price tag, however Ramsey himself has no interest in leaving his boyhood club which would complicate a potential sale.

Emery is hoping to sign a midfielder, forward and versatile defender this summer, with Gallagher on the shortlist with his Chelsea future up in the air.

The England midfielder, who has also been attracting interest from Spurs, has just a year left on his contract with the Blues needing to sell to comply with PSR.
