The Undertaker, known for his iconic presence and legendary career in WWE, has accomplished a lot in the business and he is respected for that reason. He has now revealed WWE’s blueprint for recruiting talent.
During a recent edition of Six Feet Under, WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker shared insights into WWE’s evolving recruiting strategies. He noted that the company’s approach to scouting talent has shifted, with an emphasis on recruiting from non-traditional sources, such as NFL Combines and Big 12 Combines, in addition to the independent wrestling scene.
According to The Undertaker, the objective now is to focus on athletes with a strong background in football and other sports, capitalizing on their physical prowess and athleticism. He mentioned that WWE still has a quota for recruiting from the independent wrestling circuit but is increasingly targeting athletes from various sporting events, including open workouts like the one held in Australia during the Elimination Chamber in Perth.
The Undertaker was particularly impressed with the players at the Big 12 Combine, commenting on their speed and size. He remarked that during his high school days, they didn’t have running backs and wide receivers running 4.5-second 40-yard dashes, noting that many of these athletes are 300 pounds and 6-foot-6.
“There is a quota of guys they take from independents, but I’m pretty sure the objective now is to hit these NFL Combines, the Big 12 Combines, and get those type athletes, and they do have open workouts, too, they had one in Australia when we were over there a month or so ago [for Elimination Chamber: Perth]. It’s a lot different. It’s another layer of the evolution of the product and the athletes.”
‘“Holy crap. That Big 12 combine I went to, man … when I played high school, we didn’t have running backs, wide receivers running 4.5 [second] 40 [yard dashes] and these guys are 300-pound, 6-foot-6, just motoring.”
As for The Undertaker himself, he recently inked new legends deal with WWE, which was expected. Nevertheless, The Deadman will always speak highly of the new generation of WWE talent and that’s what truly matters to him.
