The Undertaker, known for his iconic presence and legendary career in WWE, has a legacy that will never be replicated in the world of professional wrestling. Recently, he has expressed frustration over modern pro wrestlers “glad-handing” fans, suggesting that this behavior diminishes the mystique and larger-than-life personas that once defined the industry.

The wrestling industry has undergone significant changes over the past 27 years, but one fixture that has persisted since its inception in 1997 is the Hell in a Cell structure. Introduced by Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker at WWE In Your House: Badd Blood, Hell in a Cell has evolved through various phases and remains one of WWE’s most iconic gimmick matches.

During a recent video on Maven’s YouTube channel where he revisited the first Hell in a Cell match, The Undertaker praised Shawn Michaels for his intensity and psychological approach to facing a larger opponent like himself. Undertaker expressed frustration with a trend he sees in modern wrestling, where wrestlers focus more on engaging with the audience than maintaining the intense focus required in a competitive situation.

“What Shawn did in that [comeback spot] is the intensity. He had a window, right? ‘This is a big dude. I’ve got to pour on the gas.’ I think a lot of people in today’s [wrestling industry] would have glad-handed. They would have went to the crowd [gestures]. It doesn’t make sense. You wouldn’t do that in a fight. You wouldn’t do that in that kind of a situation and that’s one of my biggest pet peeves is, you know, as athletically gifted as the talent pool is, they glad-hand too much with the audience.”

The Deadman also recently inked new legends deal with WWE and even addressed accusations that he intentionally hurt a professional wrestler due to his sexuality. Nevertheless, The Undertaker will always have a lot of stories to share and that’s all that matters.
