At WrestleMania 40, The Undertaker stunned fans with a surprise appearance, aiding Cody Rhodes in his battle against Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. As tensions ran high with the “Bloodline Rules” stipulation in play, doubts lingered over Rhodes’ chances against Reigns.
The match reached a crescendo when The Final Boss executed a Rock Bottom on John Cena, only to be interrupted by the ominous toll of The Deadman’s gong. With darkness enveloping the arena, signaling his arrival, The Undertaker’s presence loomed large. After delivering a chokeslam to The Rock during the main event clash between Reigns and Rhodes, The Undertaker disappeared, leaving fans simply shocked.
While speaking on his Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker recently shared a profound experience, revealing that he had been struggling since retiring. However, this past weekend brought him closure. Despite the fun he had during his career, particularly the significance of certain storylines, he found himself at peace after his recent appearance.
Reflecting on his last match, the Boneyard match, he noted a moment of clarity that washed over him, signaling that he was finally okay. While he doesn’t rule out future appearances, he no longer feels the lingering pressure or uncertainty that plagued him since retirement. This weekend marked the end of the wrestling chapter of his life, bringing a sense of relief and excitement for the next chapter.
”Something happened this weekend, and I’ve been struggling with it since I retired, but this weekend gave me closure. Wow, it really did. It was fun, obviously. Doing this for as long as I have and being involved in that storyline, it was important. But when it was over and I’m running out of the building, I felt like, ‘I’m good now.’ I don’t know if I needed it, because you know, my last match was in the Boneyard and there was nobody there—cinematic. It was like a moment of clarity; I’m okay now. I’m not saying I won’t do something like that in the future, but I no longer have that feeling in my chest that I’ve had since I retired. I needed to come to peace with it. Just like I knew when I knew it was over in the Boneyard match at 4 in the morning, yeah, I’m good now. Wow, yeah”
The Undertaker expressed gratitude for the support of the Philadelphia crowd during WrestleMania, emphasizing the significance of ending his career on such a grand stage with someone like The Rock.
“And it just—I had no clue, but I just knew once it was done, I was like, ‘You’re good, man. It’s time to flip the page and go to the next chapter.’ So, yeah, it was such a cool weekend all the way around. To finish up and have closure to the wrestling part of my career was such a great feeling. It was amazing, an amazing feeling, because I don’t have that pressure anymore.
It’s been difficult the last couple of years, especially at Mania or even at a regular premium live event. I would leave before the matches because I would get to the point where I felt like I needed to be out there. But being out there this weekend, and to have such a great storyline with someone like The Rock on that stage at WrestleMania, in front of a live crowd like the one in Philadelphia—it was an incredible experience.”
