The iconic match between two of the greatest WWE legends, The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25 is widely regarded as one of the greatest matches in the history of the sport and The Showcase of the Immortals itself.

The bout featured Mr WrestleMania coming agonizingly close to securing the win over The Deadman several times, only for him to deliver a second Tombstone Piledriver after catching Michaels mid-Moonsault, extending his then-WrestleMania undefeated streak to 17-0.

During the recent edition of his Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker revealed that he and Shawn Michaels had difficulty practicing the finish of the match the day before WrestleMania. Despite attempting it three times in rehearsal without success, they decided to forgo further practice and trust their instincts for the actual performance, pulling off the planned finish to perfection.

“Only did it once. We practiced it and we could never get it. We just said, ‘F**k it, we’ll do it tomorrow, and we hit it. We tried it three times the night before, I missed him every time. We do it in the show and [it was] perfect.”

The WrestleMania 25 encounter between the two WWE Hall of Famers was the first of two matches at WrestleMania. The following year, Michaels and Taker would meet again at the next Mania, where Michaels would again lose the match and retire from the ring, as per the match stipulation.

While Undertaker has not competed since WrestleMania 36, he made a surprise appearance at WWE WrestleMania XL, intervening in match to help Cody Rhodes defeat Roman Reigns and become the new Undisputed WWE Champion by chokeslamming The Rock. We will have to wait and see when The Deadman chooses to rise again next time on WWE television programming.
