Later this month, shooting will commence for Sony’s Until Dawn movie. After locking down much of its principal cast a few months ago, the film has added three more to the call sheet, with the big name being fan favorite actor Peter Stormare.

In the original PlayStation 4 game, Stormare played Dr. Hill, a therapist who appeared in between chapters to analyze the player’s choices and their fears. Insiders speaking to the Hollywood Reporter claim he’ll reprise that role for the film, but he’ll be psychoanalyzing a seemingly new set of characters. Also joining the cast are Maia Mitchell (The Fosters) and Belmont Cameli (Saved by the Bell). Who are they playing? That’s unclear, as is the case with fellow stars Ella Rubin, Ji-young Yoo, and Odessa A’zion. It’s also still unclear what this movie’s even about, ditto how it’ll handle the game’s branching paths, aka the reason players liked it so much.

What is known is that director David F. Sandberg is excited for Until Dawn to mark his return to horror after spending the last few years making Shazam movies. In a statement to THR, he said the film would “explore the many great subgenres of horror to create the most terrifying experience possible.” The characters may be new for the movie, but he said it’ll be “a great standalone introduction” that captures the essence of Supermassive’s hit and “offer something new that the fans of the game will enjoy.”

Reading between the lines, fans of the original game should probably expect this to be Until Dawn more in name than anything else. Whatever changes are in store, they’ll probably rankle you, but on the bright side, at least there’s a remaster for PlayStation 5 and PC coming sometime this year to keep the original experience intact?
